Moreleigh Oak Barn

Date: 2020

Architect/Designer:

Structural Engineer: Ballantine Arnold Ltd

Location: Moreleigh, Devon

Timber Workshop were invited to install an oak frame inside an existing and crumbling cob barn on a farm development in rural Devon. The oak originated from the estate, milled from storm felled trees accrued by the client over a number of years. The oak was framed together on site to form a primary structural framework using traditional mortice and tenon techniques. The frame sits independently from the outer cob walls, and is cranked and tapered in plan to follow the shape of the existing building.
